FLEXIBLE LARYNGOSCOPY to
EVALUATE NASAL PASSAGES
Flexible laryngoscopy is a gentle, in-office examination that allows Dr. Respler to directly visualize the nasal passages, nasopharynx, adenoids, and upper airway to identify obstructions that may interfere with normal breathing and restful sleep. Enlarged adenoids, swollen nasal tissues, deviated septum and other structural abnormalities can restrict nasal airflow, contributing to mouth breathing, snoring, and disrupted sleep.
By identifying the underlying cause, Dr. Respler can help your child restore comfortable nasal breathing. This is essential as the nose naturally filters, warms, and humidifies incoming air. Improving nasal airflow can promote more restorative sleep, better daytime functioning, and healthier breathing patterns, supporting a child's overall growth, development, and well-being.
CERUMEN (EAR WAX)
REMOVAL
Cerumen removal is a gentle, in-office procedure that clears excessive or impacted earwax from the ear canal. Depending on your child's age, comfort, and the consistency of the wax, Dr. Respler may use warm-water irrigation, gentle vacuum suction, or specialized instruments to carefully remove the blockage under direct visualization.
Excessive earwax can cause muffled hearing, ear discomfort, and a sensation of fullness. Removing it can often provide immediate improvement in hearing while allowing Dr. Respler to clearly examine the eardrum and underlying ear structures.
What Parents Should Expect: The procedure is usually brief and requires no sedation. Dr. Respler selects the safest, most comfortable technique for each child, helping restore hearing clarity and ensure an accurate ear examination.
SINUS ENDOSCOPY for
SINUS EVALUATION
Nasal and sinus endoscopy is a gentle, in-office examination performed by carefully passing a thin, flexible camera through the nostril to directly examine the nasal passages and sinus drainage openings. The procedure takes just a few minutes, typically requires no sedation, and allows Dr. Respler to identify inflammation, swelling, mucus buildup, polyps, and sinus obstruction.
Although the camera does not enter the sinuses themselves, it provides valuable information about sinus drainage and potential causes of chronic congestion, recurrent infections, and difficulty breathing through the nose.
Healthy sinuses are essential for proper mucus drainage, infection prevention, and comfortable nasal breathing. By identifying the underlying problem, Dr. Respler can treat your child's sinus disease to improve sinus health, nasal airflow, and restorative sleep.
TONGUE-TIE and LIP-TIE RELEASE
Dr. Respler takes a gentle, conservative approach to tongue-tie and lip-tie, recommending treatment only when restricted tissue affects feeding, tongue movement, or oral function.
When release is necessary, local numbing medication is applied with soft gauze to maximize comfort. Dr. Respler then carefully releases the restrictive tissue using precise surgical instruments, typically in just a few minutes.
We prefer traditional surgical techniques rather than lasers, avoiding unnecessary thermal injury and the potential for additional tissue scarring.
The procedure is brief, usually requires no sedation, and allows most babies to feed immediately afterward. Dr. Respler provides individualized aftercare instructions to promote comfortable healing, improved tongue mobility, and healthy oral function.
IN-OFFICE EAR TUBES
We are proud to be one of the few practices in the tri-state area offering in-office ear tube placement without general anesthesia. Using innovative technology and a gentle, child-centered approach, Dr. Respler can place ear tubes without the need for an operating room.
With this technique, there is no general anesthesia, no pre-procedure fasting, and no lengthy hospital visit. Children can eat and drink normally beforehand and typically return home shortly after treatment.
This convenient approach reduces anesthesia-related risks, minimizes disruption to family routines, and helps restore healthy hearing and middle-ear function.
FLEXIBLE LARYNGOSCOPY to EVALUATE THE VOICEBOX
Flexible laryngoscopy is a gentle, in-office examination using a thin, flexible camera passed through the nostril to visualize the voice box (larynx) and vocal cords. Dr. Respler can identify vocal nodules, laryngeal webbing, and laryngomalacia, which may cause hoarseness, noisy breathing, feeding difficulties, or airway obstruction.
The examination typically takes just a few minutes and usually requires no sedation. Your child remains awake, sitting comfortably on a parent's lap. A gentle nasal spray may be used for comfort. Dr. Respler carefully guides the camera through the nose while observing the airway and vocal cord movement. The goal is to identify the underlying problem and develop an individualized treatment plan to support healthy breathing and voice development.
NASAL CAUTERY
Dr. Respler offers a gentle, in-office approach to nasal cautery for children experiencing frequent or persistent nosebleeds. Using a careful, minimally invasive technique, he identifies the fragile blood vessels responsible for bleeding.
Local numbing medication is applied with soft gauze inside the nostril to maximize comfort before treatment. Dr. Respler then uses precise chemical cautery, typically with silver nitrate, to seal the affected blood vessels and reduce recurrent bleeding.
The procedure takes just a few minutes, usually requires no sedation, and allows children to return home immediately. Mild temporary discomfort or crusting may occur. Dr. Respler provides simple aftercare instructions to promote healing, minimize irritation, and help prevent future nosebleeds.
