Thoughtful Surgical Care. Personalized for Every Patient

When surgery is needed, we approach every step with the same careful attention to detail that guides your child’s care from the very first visit. We do our best to accommodate family schedules and make the process as smooth and comfortable as possible. Dr. Respler personally performs all pediatric ENT surgeries without the use of residents, providing continuity of care from the office through the operating room. We work exclusively with anesthesia professionals experienced in the specialized needs of pediatric patients. For airway procedures, we may request appropriate pre-operative testing to help ensure your child is healthy and free of respiratory viruses that could affect airway safety. Families also receive detailed post-operative instructions at the office visit before surgery, allowing plenty of time to review what to expect, prepare at home, and ask questions before the day of the procedure.

Gentle Guidance for a Smooth Recovery

Surgery can feel like a lot, for kids and parents alike. Our goal is to make the experience feel a little easier by helping you know what to expect and keeping you informed, prepared, and supported every step of the way.

We’ll review your child’s after-surgery care with you before you head home. But we know there’s a lot to take in on surgery day, so we’ve gathered the most important instructions here, too. Think of this as your at-home refresher, with simple guidance for some of our most common procedures.

Every child heals a little differently. We hope these instructions give you confidence, answer the questions that come up along the way, and help make your child’s recovery at home as comfortable as possible.

And remember, you don’t have to figure it all out on your own. If something doesn’t seem right or you simply have a question, please contact our office. Our team is always happy to help.

Please note: These instructions are intended for established patients of Dr. Respler. They provide general guidance and do not replace the specific instructions Dr. Respler gives you following your child’s surgery. We assume no responsibility or liability for patients who are not patients of our practice.

GENERAL POST-OP GUIDELINES FOR PEDS ENT SURGERY

Every surgery and every child is a little different. The instructions that you were given by Dr. Respler (and also provided on the column to the left) for your child’s specific procedure should always come first. The guidelines below are helpful reminders that apply to most pediatric ENT surgeries, but they are not a substitute for the post-operative instructions you received from our team. Please be sure to review the instructions for the exact procedure your child had, especially for guidance about diet, activity, bathing, medications, and returning to school or sports.

In general, plan for a few quiet days at home and encourage plenty of rest and fluids. Give all medications exactly as directed by our team, and do not give aspirin or ibuprofen (Motrin/Advil) unless you have cleared it with our office.

A mild fever, decreased appetite, tiredness, or occasional nausea can occur after anesthesia and surgery. Your child should continue to drink and urinate regularly. Please contact our office for persistent vomiting, difficulty drinking, signs of dehydration, a high or persistent fever, pain that is not controlled with the recommended medications, or anything about your child’s recovery that concerns you. Bright red or significant bleeding from the mouth after surgery requires prompt medical attention.
